Can one date without dating?

When is it considered a date?

I find that this is a problem from both sides of the aisle.

It also seems to lack definition whether one is Religious or Non-Religious.

Actually everyone seems to have their own definition. No wonder 97% of people are afraid of dating.

Actually, Shadchun, I think it's more about people wanting to have their cake and eat it too. They want companionship and some want sex (if they are not religious) but they don't want the obligations that relationships (that start out with formal "dates" defined usually as dinner and a movie or show with teh pan picking the woman up at her place of residence, paying for everything and dropping her off at her place of residence) entail.

It's lame, in my opinion, because I have have heard of many men who get into what are de facto relationships like this with women for months on end and then one disappears and the same heartache ensues, whether it was an actual "date" or "relationship" or not. Being dumped is still being dumped. The only difference is that if you never went on a formal "date" or had a real "relationship" the parties to teh date and relationship are not "allowed" to feel hurt. They cry in secret while telling their friends it didn't mean anything to them.

Thsi is ESPECIALLY true if the parties met over the internet.
